The charm of earliest birds

Sweet is the breath of morn, her rising sweet,
With charm of earliest Birds
Or so says Eve in Paradise Lost. Well let me tell you something about the charm of earliest birds: there is a resident robin who thinks he is auditioning for heldentenor roles at the metropolitan opera and prefers to practice outside the bedroom window at around 4:45 am. At 5:00 am I opened the window and yelled, “hey, keep it down out there,” which he did long enough for me to get back into bed. I considered the effect of a beanbag round from the shotgun on a robin, but decided to just go back to bed repeating to myself, WWALD—“what would Aldo Leopold do?”
There is another sow with spring cubs—twins. I spotted her on the beach about a quarter mile past horn creek but have not seen her on the meadow. The number of bears on the meadow seem to have gone down a little. I counted between eight and eighteen throughout the day.
