Ranger Cabin, Chinitna Bay
In his Dictionary of Received Ideas, Flaubert satirically defines the Railroad thus:
Enthuse about them saying, “I, my dear sir, who am speaking to you now, was at X this morning. I took the train to Y, transacted my business there, and by Z o’clock was back here.”
I am willing to suffer resemblance to the object of Flaubert’s derision when I mention, that I awoke in Hope’s cabin on Upper Twin Lake, stopped in Port Alsworth for 30 minutes to pack up some food and am now at Chinitna Bay. I don’t really care if Gustave Flaubert would hold me in low esteem. I’m quite happy enjoying the new surroundings. I went to the meadow where I counted 28 bears and then stopped by the bear camp to say hello.
