Summer Work

It's been a busy summer, which hasn't lent itself to writing. A large part of the summer—almost all of July—was spent shooting an assignment documenting conservation practices in California for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The job took us from the north-east corner of the state, through the central coast, and then down to the border with Mexico. California agriculture is not just large (they're the largest producer of agricultural products in the country) it is also incredibly diverse. We covered large commercial farms, single-person organic operations, sturgeon/caviar farms, sage grouse habitat restoration, salt cedar removal, forest health and air quality programs, and quite a bit more. It was a wild, fascinating trip. Here is a small selection of some of the work:
